In the mountain valleys and
woods (some peaks are over 2.000 m high), you will discover an
interesting flora and fauna (blue gentians, anemones, peonies,
orange lilies, asphodels, cranberries, deer, eagles, wild boars,
marmots, wolves, etc.); you will also find excellent snow until late
spring. The cultural and artistic wealth of the region includes
small traces of Etruscan and Roman existence as well as medieval,
Renaissance and 17th century influence (Leonessa was erected in
1278); the folklore is the same as that of the people from the
Abruzzi; religious ceremonies stem from the nearby Franciscan
Umbria.
